FINANCIA HUGE GAIN SEEN IN FARM INCOME Standard Statistics Estimates Crop Value Will Exceed Last Year by More Than Billion. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, July 24.—In its week- Iy summary of the general business situation, the Standard Statistics Co., of New York, currently comments as follows: “With the automobile industry soon %o reduce production sharply for model change-overs and with several other tines curtailing operations for seasonal reasons, business is now approaching the dullest periol of the year. Earlier forecasts of a substantial improve- ment in farm purchasing power are supported by our preliminary esti- mate of the value ol agricultural production for the 1937-38 crop year. The improvement in farm buying power, coupled with the favorable out- look for a number of important in- dustries, should result in a highly satisfactory level of trade in the final quarter of this year. . “The Standard Statistics Co. esti- mates the value of agricultural pro- duction for the season at $13,665,000,- 000, compared with $12,437,000,000 for 1936-37, an increase of 9.9 per cent. The value of the crops is placed at $7.986,800,000, in gains of 94 per cent, while the value of livestock and the livestock products is figured at $5.678,300,000, up 10.6 per cent. “Farmers are already spending freely, As shown by the fact that rural retail sales in June were up 11.7 per cent from a year earlier and were only 2 per cent below the corresponding 1929 month. Actual purchasing power of the tarmer during the final half of the year probably will average above that in 1929, for, although cash receipts will be moderately smaller, cost of living and of operating the farm will be much lower.” CORPORATION REPORTS TRENDS AND PROSPECTS OF LEADING ORGANIZATIONS NEW YORK, July 24 —The follow- ing is a summary of corporation news, prepared by Standard Statistics Co., Inc, New York Kelsey-Hayes Wheel Co—Class B thare earnings, six months ended June 30, were $1.42, against $1.79.
