HELP AND SITUATIONS - JULY 4 EXERCISES GO TO WATER GATE Biggest Fireworks Display Planned, St:ene Shifting From Monument. ‘Washington's Fourth of July celebra- tion will ve held this year for the first time at the Water Gate, and the biggest fireworks display yet planned, fnstead of centering about the Wash- Sngton Monument, will be set off from barges in the Potomac River. Plans for the event will be dis- tussed tomorrow at a luncheon at 22:30 pm. in the Harrington Hotel by Commissioner Melvin C. Hazen, chairman of the Citizens’ Committee for the celebration, and heads of the Subcommittees in charge. The shift from the Monument Frounds to the Water Gate near Lincoln Memorial was caused by the fact that the Boy Scouts, here for their national jamboree, will occupy the entire Monument area at the time of the celebration. Tickets will be placed on sale in the downtown section next week, it was announced. Plans will be made tomorrow as to finance, seating and Pprogram. A massing of colors cere- mony by military, patriotic and vet- erans’ organizations will be preceded by a concert by the Marine Band. An amplification system will cover the large area where the crowd will assemble. LANSDOWNE’S SON NAVAL GRADUATE Midshipman's Father Killed in Crash of Dirigible Shenan- doah in 1925. In the class that will be graduated from the Naval A y next Thurs- day is the 21-year-old son of one of the Nation's first m Ts to the de- Velopment of lighter-than-air craft. He is Midshipman Falkland Mac- Kinnon Lansdowne, whose father, Ijeut. Comdr. . Zachary Lans- downe, was killed when the Navy dirigible Shenan- doah was de- stroved in a line storm over Ohio in 1925, The elder Lans- downe graduated from Annapolis n 1909. He was tr st to make a flight with helium, piloting a Navy blimp from ¢ Langley Field. Va., to Washington in December, 1921. His pioneering success with this non- {nflammable substance made his death somewhat ironical. It was because the Bhenandoah, which he commanded on fts fatal flight, was helium filled that 80 few aboard her were killed. Lieut. Comdr. Lansdowne and his fellow victims were in the control gondola, which was torn loose and smashed to the ground while the others ballooned safely to earth. Young Lansdowne is an only son. ‘He was appointed to the academy from F. M. Lansdowne Wisconsin by Senator La Follette. He | 15 a “one-striper.” a member of the company rifle team, the battalion gym team, the staff of the Log and the academy orchestra. He has no in n aviation and after graduation will be assigned as an ensign to the battle- ship California. HEIR'S BI RTH EXPECTED BY PRINCESS JULIANA | 85 the Associated Press.
