Wise Smith, president of the National Woman's Christian Temperance Union, and a vice presi- dent of the World's W. C. T. U,, ar- rived in Washington yesterday as one of the first of 600 delegates and 3,500 visitors expected here for the sixteenth triennial convention of the organiza- tion to be held here June 3 to 8. At a press conference held at the ‘Washington Hotel about two hours after her arrival Mrs. Smith said: “The W. C. T. There is more bootlegging now than ever before. It costs the public too much to derive the tax revenue from liquor. A well-known life insurance company report shows the rejection of life insurance applications because of the effects of liquor have increased 183 per cent since repeal. “Our greatest problem is among young people.
