Administration leaders predicted to- day the Senate would support Presi- dent Roosevelt's recommendation for a permanent Civilian Conservation Corps. in contrast to a two-year ex- tension voted by the House. Senator Black, Democrat, of Ala- bama, urged the Senate also to over- rule House action limiting the 300,000 enrollees to relief clients and refus- ing civil service status to civilian em- ployes of the camps. House members, revolting last week against their leaders, said they wanted to keep Government expenditures at a minimum and preferred to delay making permanent any agencies created by President Roosevelt. Asking long life for the C. C. C. | President Roosevelt had told Congress: “I am convinced there is ample, useful work in protection and develop- | ment of our national resources on | which the services of the corps may be employed advantageously for an extended future period.” Under pending legislation, the President could authorize any agency to administer the program, but C. C C. officials said they understood the War Department would continue in charge. The Labor, Interior and Agriculture \ Departments have co-operated in the | last four years in selecting men and corps projects. A spokesman for Robert Fechner, C. C. C. director, discounted the pos- sibility that C. C.
