CITIZENS 0PPOSE JUDGES MEASURE | Conduit Road Group, How- ever, Favors Principle of Retirement Pay. Although approving the principle of | retirement pay for judges of the Po- | lice, Municipal and Juvenile Courts, | the Conduit Road Citizens' Associa- | tidn last night opposed the present House bill granting retirement pay. Several features were opposed by the hssociation, specifically those granting one-half and one-third pay after 12 and 10 years’ service. As an alterna- tive the association proposed that judges be put on the same system of retirement that governs District and Federal employes and that they con- tribute part of their salary to the re- tirement fund. ‘The proposed K street viaduct as a traffic diversion route through George- town received approval of the group Ellis R. King, chairman of the Streets | and Highway Committee, which in- | " troduced the resolution favoring the | proposal, declared that although it | would cost more than several alterna- tive routes, at the same time it would | be more effective in decreasing con- | gestion and would be more desirable | from a scenic and efficiency point of view. The transfer of Gallinger Hospital and the Tuberculosis Sanatorium from | the Board of Public Welfare to the | Public Health Service and the transfer of certain playgrounds on, adjacent to or near school property from the Playground Department to the Com- munity Center Department, as pro- vided in the District appropriation bill now before Congress, was approved.
