STUDENT MARRIAGES MAY BE ALLOWED University of Georgia Begins Study Looking to Removal of Ban. By the Assoctated Press. ATHENS, Ga., April 30.—The five- year-old ban of the University of Georgia against student marriages may be lifted in the interest of honesty. A special subcommittee of the uni- versity's discipline groups began a study today which President Harmon W. Caldwell hopes will legalize student marriages when properly advertised. “I have observed the rule encourages secret marriages,” the president said. “In my opinion it would be better to permit students to remain in school if they get married with the knowledge of the parents and the school authori- ties.” President Caldwell said he had been informed the rule never resulted in the ouster of a student.
