THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C. FRIDAY, APRIL 30. 1937. AIRPORT RUNWAYS | UNHURT BY FLOOD THE HUB FURNITURE (C0.-7th AND D Transport Operations at Local Field May Be Resumed Today. Pollowing tests which set at rest | : rumors that the flood had under- | mined the newly paved runways at| ‘ Washington Airport, air transport | operators were expected to resume op- | . erations there today. The flood scat- | tered operations to Logan Field, Baltimore; Byrd Airport, Richmand, and the new Bolling Field. After tests with an 1ll-ton truck and an airliner on all parts of the ~ 4 , runway system the airport was pro- ' ' nounced fit for operations by Samuel PS - J. Solomon, airport manager. De- spite the announcement, American Airlines and Eastern Airlines said that no decision to restore local op- erations would be made until today. American Airlines canceled night | fandings at the local airport last | night, and Eastern continued its op- " erations at Baltimore and Richmond. | Loss of Business Reported. | Operators expressed the opinion that in such emergencies as that| which closed the local airport for the last two days the Post Office Depart- ment should designate an alternative operations base. Heavy losses in busi- ness have resulted from the scatter- ing of local operations during the flood perfod, they said. Airlines which were forced to move to Baltimore had to establish a limousine service be- tween Washington and the airport there. In one case yesterday it cost | one of the airlines $15 to provide | : - . this service for a single DH\EVHRPY : < i e S % el MOVE TRAY FOR LAZY BAR who had purchased a $14 ticket from _' Washington to Raleigh, N.
