HELP AND COLORADO STUDENT WINS EUROPE TRIP|: Pueblo Girl, 17, Gets First Prize in Essay Contest of V. F. W. Ladies’ Auxiliary. A trip to New York and Europe awaits 17-year-old Fdna Falk, Pueblo, Colo., high school student, it was an- nounced yesterday at the Interior De- partment, as first prize winner in the national Statue of Liberty essay con- test sponsored by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She won over more than 100,000 high school boys and girls, who par- ticipated in the contest connected with the golden jubilee year of the famous statue, which will be rededicated Wed- nesday by President Roosevelt. ‘The two other winners, receiving ecash awards, are Beverly Jane Rank, 16, Salt Lake City, and Frances Ross, also 16, Cheyenne, Wyo. Miss Falk will be awarded a gold medal and a round trip to New York for the ceremonies there in connection with the rededication ceremony, After- ward she will embark on the Nor- mandie as guest of the Federation of Prench Veterans of the Great War. ‘While overseas, the French newspaper, Paris Soir, will act as her host. “What the Statue of Liberty Means to the American People,” was the theme of the contest, in which pupils between the ages of 14 and 18 ‘were eligible to compete.
