Parents’ Fight Brings Critical Burns to Girl EXCONVICT HELD INCABISLAYIES Guarded Against Possible + Lynching Attempts After “Confession.” By the Associated Press. ELKO, Nevada, October 19.—Of- cers guarded Luther Jones, 32, an ex- convict, against possible lynching at- tempts today after he was quoted as confessing killing four men, three of them prominent cattle rafichers, in a | $40 hold-up here. Sherifft C. A. Harper said Jones, former Indiana and Montana convict, calmly admitted shooting the four in a cabin near the Elko stockyards be- | cause one of them resisted. The ranchers, who disappeared | from the stockyards Friday, were found dead with the fourth victim Saturday. Sherift Harper said Jones told of . taking $40 from the ranchers and of marching them to the cabin. Ranchers Are Tied. There, an itinerant occupant of the eabin named Joe Stecca, tied the ranchers at his orders, Jones was quoted. “I was going to tie him (Stecca) up,” the statement released by the | sheriff ‘added, “and he started to strike DOROTHY FENWICK. | Converted into a living torch by | the explosion of a jar of gasoline dur- ing a quarrel yesterday between her mother and stepfather, Miss Dorothy | Fenwick, 20, of 429 K street, was in critical condition today in Gallinger Hospital.
