TOPEKA, Kans, September 15.— ‘The Kansas Supreme Court weighed today the question whether Gov. Alf M. Landon is to have only two or possibly six rivels for the nine presi- dential electoral votes of his home State. The Republican candidate’s only rivals now are President Roosevelt and Norman Thomas, Socialist nomi- nee, but three others have been de- nied places on the general election ballot by Secretary of State Frank J. Ryan. Lemke Asks Action. Electors pledged to one of them— Representative William Lemke of North Dakota, Union party nominee— asked the court to order their names inserted on the ballot. On the court’s ruling will depend the fate of electors pledged to another favoring Dr. D. Leigh Colvin and John W. Aiken, prohibition and Socialist~ Labor party candidates, respectively. Ryan, in rejecting Lemke, Browder and Colvin electors, declared their re- spective parties failed to comply with the State's primary election law which requires that names of electors be filed by noon June 20. In rebuttal, Union party attorneys contend the primary law does not apply to presi- dential electors. Fates Are Linked. Colvin electors were turned down when representatives of his party sought to file them a few minutes after the closing hour, June 20. Ryan said that if the court found for the Lemke electors, the others would be placed on the ballot. State officials were in disagreement on the issue. Attorney General Clarence V. Beck, court that the Union party electors be accepted. Should they win the court fight, the Lemke electors, all members of Townsend Old-Age Pension Clubs, said they would conduct an intensive campaign in Kansas. Farm Ownership Distant.
