SANTA MONICA, Calif.,, September 15.—Irving Grant Thalberg, who kept his own brilliant name off the screen while he guided others to fame, was mourned in death today by a stunned film industry. Cameras everywhere will halt to- morrow, the day of the funeral, in memory of the 37-year-old production head of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and husband of Norma Shearer. He died yesterday of lobar pneumonia before hundred: of shocked friends scarcely were aware he was ill. The Association of Motion Picture Producers said the entire industry would stop for five minutes during the funeral services. Qrief-stricken Miss Shearer, whose marriage to Thalberg was regarded as one of the happiest in the film ¢olony, was in seclusion today at the home ‘where her husband died under an oxygen tent after contracting s head cold on Labor day in Del Monte. There she and Thalberg had spent their honeymoon nine years ago. Slight of stature and frail in health since boyhood, Thalberg worked as if driven by inner forces he could-not control, before his breakdown three years ago. Then his wife Norma Shearer left the screen in order to be with him a year abroad. It was not unusual to find him at his desk 15 to 20 hours a day. Later, even though Mrs. Thalberg worried and persisted in later years to have earned as much as $500,~ 000 annually. —_—— DEADLINE ON ELOPERS themselves of Bt.
