December 16.—There was very little color to the bond mar- ket today in respect to volume or price movements. Investment authorities saw no change in the basic situation, but 1t was evident that speculative cate- gories were attracting considerably Jess interest because of the hesitant action of the stock market. United States Government issues | were well supported et slightly im- proved levels. The Treasury 3s and | 31;s were transferred at gains of 3- 32 of a point. There was less selling in Italian | obligations, but a further fractional loss occurred in the government 7s, while the public utility 7s gave up a point. French 7i4s dipped 2. Other foreign groups were quiet. Showing no definite trend, prices moved narrowly in the domestic cor- | porate - section. Bids were slightly | higher in American & Foreign Power 5s, Santa Fe 4s, Canadian Pacific debentures and Missouri Pacific and Pennsylvania issues. Washington AE;axangg SALES. NEW YORK, December 16.—Steel production during the current week was estimated today by the American Iron & Steel Institute at 54.6 per cent of capacity, compared with 55.7 per cent in the preceding week. A month ago pooduction was 53.7 per cent and a year ago it was at the rate of 34.6 per cent. The decline of 1.1 point in the esti- mated operating rate follows a reces- sion of .7 of a point in the previous week.
