PLITIES PRESSG DENAND FOR AR Radio Executives to Decide if Policy of Waiting Is to Change. THER the big networks will deviate from their hitherto fixed policy of re- fusing to “sell time” for national political purposes until after the Republican and Democratic na- tional conventions, will be a problem facing the radio executives shortly. | ©On good authority it has been learned the Republican National Committee, a8 soon as its finance committee raises the requisite funds, hopes to sponsor | at least one dramatic show dealing with political trends even before it | names its presidential candidate. | ‘While the Democratic National | Committee has yet to choose its radio | director, the Republicans last Winter | appointed Thomas G. Sabin, of Dallas, & former staff member of the N. B. C.’s Boston station, WBZ. Sabin is spend- ing most of his time in New York, | been nominated, on the theory that even partisan political broadcasts fall in the public service category in the interim afid should not be paid for. Moreover, they dislike political broad- casts because they are sporadic and disrupt regular entertainment sched- ules commanding greater popularity. Accordingly, they have allotted such non-commercial periods as are avail- able to the major parties and their spokesmen on as equitable a basis as possible without charging for the fa- cilities. * k¥ X JIGHTY-EIGHT stations of the combined networks of the National Broadcasting Co., starting December 21, will broadcast weekly full-length performances of the Metropolitan Opera Co. direct from the opera house in New York.
