' B—12 DITIZENS CENSURE FEDERATION HEAD Liquor Store Indorsement | Against Group’s Wishes Stirs Association. Thomas E. Lodge, president of the Federation of Citizens’ Associations, | was criticized last night by the Six- | teenth Street Heights Citizens' Asso- | ciation for testifying before the Alco- | holic Beverage Control Board in the | interest of a liquor dealer whose re- quest for renewal of his liquor license was opposed by the association. The A. B. C. Board granted the license vesterday. The store is located at Alaska avenue and Kalmia road. The association adopted a resolu- tion protesting “against the intru- | sion of any officer of the federation | into the affairs of a member body in | violation of the wishes of a majority | of the members of said bod; and | asking “that Lodge be reprimanded | for his action in aiding the continu- ance of a liquor store in our com- munity against the wishes of the membership of our association.” Renewal of the permit was opposed because, it was said. customers of th store park double and violate othe regulations, constituting a traffic | menace, and because a church is on | the opposite corner. The association | also charged that patrons drink in| public near the premises and throw liquor bottles in the church yard.| Stephen T. Early of the White House | secretariat was one of those favoring | the license. Lodge is not a resident of the com- munity. Copies of the resolution will be sent 1o the A. B. C. Board, People’s Coun- | sel Roberts, the federation and all citizens’ associations. ' James R. Kirkland, chairman of the License and Zoning Committee, was commended for the competent way in which he presented the association's case at the hearing. President Samuel B. Loveless was also complimented. A resolution was adopted indorsing Col. W. L. Peake for superintendent of the District penal institutions, The A. A. Following up its resalution last month opposing construction of Fed- eral low-cost housing projects in the West End area, the citizens’ associ- ation of that section last night assailed the Alley Dwelling Author- ity for mot giving price estimates to private bidders on the condemned | property.
