"A—14 xxxw BANK T0 RETIRE $337,000 0F BONDS Anacostia & Potomac River Issue Purchased at Around 91 Mark. BY EDWARD C. STONE. The Baltimore National Bank, which has been holding the sum of $325,000 | for the purchase and cancellation of | that amount of Anacostia & Potomac River R. R. 5 per cent first mortgage gold bonds, due April 1, 1949, is about to cancel blocks of these bonds in the | approximate amount of $357,000, it was reported in the financial district here today. The bank asked for tenders on the bonds some weeks ago, stating that 92 would be the maximum price paid. Many more than the desired number of the bonds were offered. The Balti- more bank opened the tenders yester- day and bought the bonds at an aver- age price of about 91 By purchasing the bonds under par the bank was able to retire more than the original $325.000 worth, it was re- ported here today. This action re- | duces the total bonds outstanding | from $2,451,000 to about $2.094,000, | thus strengthening the position of Capital Transit Co. issues and making Anacostia remaining bonds more valu- able. | The Anacostia bonds are widely held by Washington investors. The issue is listed on the Washington Stock Exchange and has sold as high as 94 during the year. There was great in- terest here as to the number of bonds that would be offered at 92 or lower. ‘The bank asked for bids in the news- paper advertisements and by postal cards sent to many of the present | holders. Potomac Electric Power 6s moved in a $500 transfer at 1082, while $500 Capital Traction 5s sold at 9534, In the stock division Riggs National Bank common sold at 110 and a small sale of Capital Transit took place at 16, off a point from last week’s close. The bid on Washington Railway & Electric common stock stood at $500 a share today, with $600 asked, both ex- dividend. From Frederick comes news that the banks there will pay out $97,000 in Christmas Savings Club funds on November 27.
