Danger For Civilization. | Civilization is heading toward the | most dangerous time in history because of the spread of corrupt and sinister influences, Dr. J. R. Mott, president | of the World's Al- liance of the Y. M. C. A. yester- day told delegates to the conference. Dr. Mott called attention to the fact that there 1 men and boys un- der arms now fore the outbreak of the World War. He at- tributed this to the “oscillating D31 Mett. fear and cupidity of nations.” He re- | ferred to the present generation as “like & derelict upon the seas—a seri- ous menace to all who come in con- tact with it.” Development of Character. The Young Men's Christian Asso- ciation is developing a type of charac- | ter which buttresses everything we | have at heart, Dr. Mott said, and | pointed out that the “force of trans- i portation is one of the greatest factors for promoting solidarity of nations, and is perhaps a greater unifying in- | fluence than any other.” Richard C. Morse, vice president of the Pennsylvania railroad and presi- dent of the transportation department of the Y. M. C. A, was elected presi= dent of the conference at an election i of officers yesterday. | Vice presidents of the conference elected yesterday were Roy V. Wright, managing editor of Railway Age, New York; T. Hambley, North Bay, On- Washington; George M. Harrison, Cincinnati; Col. Robert S. Henry, ‘Washington, and C. W. Van Horn, Baltimore.
