Schaefer, 65, prominent band instructor of O-nxnewwn Unlvermy and personal ‘ friend of the late Victor Her- bert, who died Saturday at Sun- nyside Station, near here, will be held at the home at 1:45 pm. to- morrow. Although born in Bavaria, Ger- many, Mr. Schaefer served for 27 years with the United States - Army, seeing Bemastan service in Span- ish-American, Mexican Border and World War engagements. He retired in 1920 to become instructor of Georgetown University bands. Educated in Germany, he attended the Conservatory of Music at Leipzig, where he became acquainted with Vic- tor Herbert. He enlisted in the United States Army after entering: this country in 1890. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Julia M. BODLEY DIES HERE AT 38 Pioneer Manufacturer and Industralist Resident of District 4 Years. James W. Bodley, 93, pioneer West Virginia manufacturer and industri- alist, who had made his home in Washington for the past four years, died Friday at the home of his daugh- ter, Mrs. Morrie Bodley Morris, 1935 Calvert street, after & long illness. Mr. Bodley was a native of Wheel- ing, W. Va., where after the Civil War he founded the Bodley Wagon Co., which manufactured plantation wag ons and machinery that for years were well known and widely used through- out the South. For several years he made his home in New Orleans and conducted much of his business from -there. When war broke out, in 1860, he was the first volunteer from Wheeling to enlist in the Union Army and served throughout the war as a mem- ber of the 1st West Virginia Infantry. He was then 19 years old, and through an appeal directly to President Lin- coln he was able to supply rifles for his organization. Mr. Bodley prided himself on having cast his first vote for Lincoln. In later life he took considerable in- spent a great share of his fortune in religious activities. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Morris, and one son, Charles F. Bodley.
