Electric Bond & Share, in brisk dealings, was up 1% points to 171, ‘while American Gas & Electric gained & major fraction at 37% National Sugar of New Jersey and Parker . One banker said his institution was lending huge sums to foreigners on gilt-edge collateral and that the funds were being used in margin trading | here. A large brokerage establishment re- ported that wire orders from cities in the West and Mid West have been accounting for an important propor- tion of the turnover in stocks. It was added that trading by New Yorkers was far behind that of the rest of the country. e TOBACCO PILES UP FOR COMING WEEK Virginia Markets Have Seen Many Price Gains at Recent Auctions. By the Associated Press. With tobacco already pouring in for Monday sales, price averages for the leaf continued steady in the $22-$23 range on Old Belt auction floors yes- terday. Danville warehouses handled 1,017,- 498 pounds for $232,715.61, or an average of $22.88. South Boston buyers took 409920 pounds at an average of $23.10, which was $1.39 per hundredweight better than the average of Thursday. Figures included all sales and are not termed farmers’ or producers’ averages. Market observers yesterday won- dered whether price averages will take another leap Monday, as they have done over the past two week | ends. “It appears to have become a | habit with the growers to market their best tomacco on Monday,” it was said. BALTIMORE, Md, October 26— ‘The live poultry market shows little change from last week, values being well maintained on Rocks at 20a23 a | pounds; mixed colored, 17a2l, and Leghorns, 18a20. Old hens are bringing 21a23 for Rocks, 16a22 for mixed colored and 13a15 for Leghorns and 13al4 for old roosters. Young hen turkeys, 9 pounds and over, are in good demand at 27a28, with smaller bringing 25a26 and gob- blers, 13 pounds and over, 25a26. Smaller gobblers, however, will not bring over 22a24 and thin and crooked breasts meet slow sale at 18a20. Young ducks sell mostly 15a17 and guinea fowl, 2 pounds and over, 40 each. Egg Market Improves. The egg market continues to show an increase with nearby whites, 38a40 and medium size, 25a26, nearby cur- rent receipts are bringing 23a24 with Southern eggs. selling mostly 30a31. NEW YORK, October 26.—Another advance in the -rice of fluorspar, a flux used in open-hearth operations, has led to the suggestion in some quarters that an increased rate of s.22] operations is in prospect. . ‘The material was boosted 50 cents 8 ton following an advance of $1 a ‘ton on October 15. However, the rise i fluorspar appears to have a baro- metric offset in the recent trend of steel scrap prices.
