NEW YORK, October 19.—With the exception of a few issues which at- tracted a special buying interest the bond market performed in routine ‘Yashion today. Volume was not stimulated appreci- ably of the vigorous forward movement in the share list on the stock exchange but it appeared that this development helped to bring a somewhat better tone to the general run of secondary | ‘bonds. International Telephone loans show- ed pronounced strength, the converti- ble 5s rising 2 points to 70'z. Shell Union Oil 5s gained almost as much, but dealings here were very small. Loaus gaining within fractional range included American & Foreign | Power 5s, Baltimore & Ohio 4!1s, Goodyear 5s, Great Northern 4las, Nickel Plate 4'zs, Southern Pacific 41;s, Southern Railway 4s and ‘Youngstown Sheet & Tube 5s. United States Governments showed an irregular recovery following a cou- ple of declining sessions. Some of | the Treasury issues worked ahead as | much as 7/32ds, and similar gains | were registered in the Home Loan and | Federal Farm obligations. In fast trading on a big scale every futures delivery of wheat in Chicago fell to below $1 a bushel. Opening all the way from 1 cent to | 2% cents down, December 99%al.01, wheat quickly showed a fall of more than 3 cents. Corn started 1,87 lower, December 587;als, and then dropped further. Reflecting peace overtures, cables said there was practically no demand whatsoever for cash wheat in Eng- land today. Some transactions in Chicago were soon at almost 4 cents & bushel overnight loss. Rapid fluc- tuations followed the opening loss. For the time being wheat price rallies were apparently powerless to lift the market higher than the ini- tial top limits. A sustaining factor as to wheat was relative steadiness of corn and oats. Tending to uphold '3 | the price of feed grains was a report | that expert investigation on a trip of 400 miles through Central Illinois showed corn crop conditions bad as a result of frost damage. The report sald farmers were buying lightweight cattle to feed poor corn before it rotted, Provisions underwent decided set- i backs, responsive largely to grain price downturns.
