By the Associated Press. DETROIT, October 3.—If the drive for further expansion of distribution brings the results hoped for, the motor car industry in 1936 will assemble something in excess of 4,000,000 pas- senger cars and trucks. If this program is realized it will mark the first year since 1929 that the figure has been reached in the pro- duction division of the industry. An output of & little more than 3,500,000 in 1930 at present is the high level " | since the top of the boom period in 1929, but this mark is destined to be bettered before the end of the cur- rent year. The prediction may not fully terialize, although the programs laid down for 1936 model production could easily absorb that volume without af- fecting factory activity during the early months of next year. During the last several weeks the distribution division of the industry has had under way an intensive effort to clean up current types so that losses would not have to be absorbed in “bargain sales.” 1In some sections this has resulted in a scarcity of cars available for immediate delivery. The clean-up campaign, meanwhile, is going vig- orously forward. This activity will mean heavy de- mands upon the production division once the assembly lines begin turning out 1936 types, and a condition euch as developed in January of this year, when dealers’ orders swamped the factories is not at all unlikely.
