AUTO MEN MAP 1336 SALES DRIVE Producers Call in Dealers for Demonstrations of Next Year’s Models. By the Associated Press. DETROIT, September 19.—The mo- tor car industry has its drive for 1936 business under way. A number of producers ‘have called in dealer rep- resentatives from various sections of the country for factory demonstra- tions of next year’s models and plans are going forward for similar meetings as rapidly as the swing over into production on 1936 types is completed. While the conferences with. the Esales representatives lack nothing in enthusiasm and confidence in the continued upward movement of new car sales, most of the production and distribution heads are talking about prospective increases in their own as- sembly and sales figures. So far as the industry as a whole is concerned the discussions appear to be follow- ing the usual conservative channels. The belief of the trade appears to be well expressed in the statement of one leading distribution executive | that “we feel entitled to anticipate a 20 per cent increase in the over-all | market.” In the same breath this | official said his company expected a | 50 per cent increase in sales next year. The expectation of a 20 per cent increase, if realized in the production | division, would mean something in | excess of 4,000,000 output next year. It appears to be a foregone conclu- sion that the 3,325,000-unit production | predicted by the Automobile Manu- facturers’ Association will be attained for the current year. That the esti- mate was conservative is generally ac- cepted throughout the industry.
