Govecrnments were generally lower. Losses in the Treasury issues ranged from 1-32d to 9-32ds of a point. Treasury loans had a number of de- | clines ranging from 1-32 to 6-32 of a point. The guaranteed obligations were steadier, and Federal Farm Mortgage 3!ss were slightly improved over Saturday's final quotation. Rails moved ahead during the fore- noon, but only a few of them man- aged to carry the gains into the late trading. CHICAGO, September 16.—Adver- tising lineage in newspapers held an | even keel during August, when com- | pared with August of last year, Adver- tising Age’s analysis indicates. The total volume of all advertising | carried in the newspapers of 84 cities, | which were measured both in August, | 1935, and August. 1934, increased | about 1.8 per cent this year over last | year, according to the analysis. The | publications measured cairied 131,- 124,895 lines of advertising last month, | compared with 128.781,007 lines JLH year. Retail lineage went up approximate- | 1y 19 per cent, the August total being | 73.319,644 lines, against 71,908811 1 lines last vear.
