The party will make up one of the most representative groups of Wash- ington bankers who have ever attend- | ed an American Bankers' Association convention. Several members of the group will be accompanied by their wives, and arrangements have already been completed for a special car for | members of the party who are not | planning to make the trip by air. Mr. Groom held a conference with | railroad officials today regarding the | plan to have the Washington car at-| rached to a special train taking New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore bankers to the convention. Chairman Groom expects this can be arranged. Naturally, Mr. Fleming will have to go to New Orleans ahead of the dele- gation from the Capital to meet the other A. B. A. officials and perfect | final details for the national associa- tion's most important gathering of the year. On account of the sweep- ing changes in banking laws and ope- rating methods it is said the program will be one of the most vital in many | years. Trust Changes Stock Holdings. A. S. Golden & C Woodward Building, is distributing the latest re- port from Massachusetts Investment Trust, which reviews the August port- folio changes. Six new stocks were added, Pullman, Ford Motor of Can- ada “A” Commercial Credit, U. S. Steel preferred, Servel and Manufac- turers' Trust. The trust increased holdings in Sears Roebuck, Montgomery Ward, North American, R. H. Macy, Amer- ican Gas & Electric, Du Pont, Mon- santo Chemical, Norfolk & Western, International Harvester and Bulolo Gold. ‘The report states that holdings were decreased during August in Chase Na- tionai Bank and American Agricul- tural Chemical. Several of the above issues have been among the most ac- tive stocks on the New York Exchange during the recent bull market. Chevy Chase Pays 20 Per Cent. Receiver Cary A. Hardee of the Chevy Chase Savings Bank has noti- fied former depositors that the pay- ment of 20 per cent is to be started Wednesday. As noted elsewhere in today's Star. this will make a total of | 80 per cent which the bank has paid. The present payment will total $134,000 and be made to 5000 de- positors. Receiver Hardee states that the depositors must call at 1336 New | York avenue northwest for their | money, and that no payments will be made at the bank. which is now an | active branch of the Riges National. He adds that no depositors should call at the New York avenue office until they have received postal cards in the | mail notifying them the money is ready. There will be another payment later, end the receiver is hopeful the bank will be able to pay out 100 per cent. That is not definite. If it does, it will be the first Washington bank to get into that class. Addition of 20 per cent to the 60 per cent already paid will cause great joy among the de- positors. Business Still Climbing Here. Barometers in Washington for the | first eight months of 1935, just avail- | sble, reveal further business progress. As already announced, check trans- actions in the city were much ahead of the like period last year. Tabula- tion of the number of telephones in use shows an increase in every month this year compared with the same month last year. Report of the Ches- apeake & Potomac Telephone Co. re- veals a proportionate gain in originat- ing phone calls. Postal receipts have made the same encouraging progress in the eight months. Receipts of the City Post Office have had seasonal variations, but have been consistently ahead of the first eight months of 1934. Au- gust receipts alone were much bet-| ter than August a year &go. The Potomac Electric Power Co.s reports for the eight months cover- ing kilowatt hour sales in the Dis- trict tell the same story of steadily increasing monthly totals. In August electric output was up 19.63 per cent. Likewise, in Washington's leading de- partment stores the volume of sales scored a gain of 14.2 per cent over the first eight months of last year. ‘The Washington Stock Exchange re- corded but one sale today, Capital Transit Co. stock again selling at 17}2. The Interstate Commerce Commis- sion has approved the application of |* W. J. Harahan, president of the Chesapeake & Ohio Ry., to serve as en officer and director of the Erie Railroad. 6% 26% 1R 23 108 51t 115 19 a5 144 234 19t fl’h 20 603 42'; 1'% 5% 22% v 14 Am & For Pw $7 pf_ Am & For Pw 2d pf_ £4 Am Hawalian §S(1) 2% Am Hide & Leather. 17 Am Hide& L pf 29‘- Am Home Pr (2.40).
