We shall look at our houses, to see if they had better be repainted or reroofed before the rigors of Winter set in ... We shall figure the needs of the coal bin (or perhaps decide to install that oil burner we’ve long wanted). . . . We shall take stock of'the living room, bed rooms, bath room, kitchen and clothes closets, to find out what replacements are needed. And if we are as foresighted as we ought to be, we will buy now for future as well as immediate needs. For September is the month of advan- tageous buying; of inviting close-outs and attrac- tive pre-season sales. Knowing where to find exactly what we want is certainly knowing how to save money. Look on the pages of this news- paper—in the advertisements. There is no better or easier way. Remember: Money saved through judicious buying is money earned—and as real as that gained from any wage increase. By the Associated Press. SANTA FE, N. Mex., September 4 — State officials last night awaited re- covery of Mrs. Genevieve Fotbes Her- rick, Chicago, and Ibrahim Seyfullah, secretary to the Turkish Ambassador, before they close an inquiry into the automobile accident which took the lives of Mrs. Harold L. Ickes, wife of the Secretary of the Interior, and her driver, Frank Allen. District Attorney David Chavez in- dicated the accident is almost a “closed incident” unless the two in- jured persons give accounts which would support a “hit-and-run” theory. Mrs, Herrick and Seyfullah were re- ponufremng “fairly well.” Both suf- fered fractures of the pelvis and other injuries in the accident near Velarde, N. Mex, north of here, Saturday night. A coroner’s jury failed to fix blame. Chavez said evidence so far indi- cated the automobile ran off the road and overturned when the driver at- tempted to straighten the car out on the highway again. He said there was no evidence of a hit-and-run car. OFFICIALS PAY TRIBUTE. Mrs, Roosevelt Heads Those at Rites for Mrs. Ickes. CHICAGO, September 4 () —High officials of the city, State and Nation paid final tribute to Mrs. Harold L. Ickes yesterday. Mrs. Pranklin D. Rev. E. Ashley Gerhardt, rector of Christ Episcopal Church in the fash- ionable North Shore suburb, read two psalms—the 15th and the 2lst. He chose them as most expressive of the character of the woman who | became nationally known as a mem- ber of the Illinois Legislature, Wash- ington hostess, author and champion of the rights of the underprivileged. Mrs. Roosevelt, James A. Farley, and Mrs. George Dern, Secretary of Commerce and Mrs. Daniel C. Roper, Gov. Henry Horner, Mayor Edward | J. Kelly, Mrs, Henry A. Wallace, wife of the Secretary of Agriculture, sat | with bowed heads as the pastor spoke. The three sons, W. Requa Brvant, the son-in-law; William McCrillis, a cousin, and Stacy Mosser, a family friend, acted as pallbearers, 'EDWARD B.
