"Thomas d HELP AND SITUATIONS. MAN FACES TRIAL AFTER 19 YEARS Father Is Charged With Murdering Daughter in Greensburg in 1916. By the Associated Press. GREENSBURG, Pa., September 3. ~John Barnes, 67-year-old one-time hostler, faced trial today on a charge of murder for the slaying of his daughter, 19 years ago. He was 48 when he became a fugi- tive after the daughter, Mrs. Florence Mae Barnes Bishop, 22, was shot to death in the doorway of the Barnes home on July 11, 1916. Officers arrested Barnes several months ago at a friend's farm in nearby Evans City. State police and Constable Frank Kratz, who apprehended Barnes, quotes him as saying he had gone to his wife's home on that July day, tak- ing a revolver to ‘“give her a good scare.” Mrs. Barnes was away. Police found the daughter dead later on the door- step. Attorneys for Barnes said one of their principal witnesses will Barnes' wife, Mrs Margaret Barnes, who has lived at her New Kensington, Pa., home in the two decades her hus band has been a fugitive. U. S. CHORUS GIRL BAN IN LONDON IS LIFTED Ministry of Labor's Decision Runs Only Until 1936, New Ruling Explains. By the Associated Press LONDON, September 4.—The min- stry of labor’s ban on Hollywood chorus girls appearing in London ho- tels has been lifted until the end of this year, Sir Francis Towle has an- nounced. Sir Frances, managing director of the Gordon Hotels, said “the ministry relented when it was explained that the girls' contract does not expire un- til the end of the year and that hun- dreds of English girls were tried out, but that none could do this type of work.” The two dozen American chorus girls who were barred from further London appearances in July and are now on the French Riviera will return to start the Autumn season. “G-Men” Add Machine to Their RE/ Laboratory Equipment. The “lie detector.” the machine that measures truthfulness, has been added to the laboratory of the *“G-men.” J. Edgar Hoover, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, said, however, that use of the device which measures the rise and fall of blood pressure, heart beat and breathing is still in the “experimental” stage in the Government's crime laboratory here. If the truth machine passes the ex- perimental stage it will be adopted as standerd equipment and recom- mended for use in Federal courts, —_— Marnage LICEHSCS. Nathaniel E. Ashby. 28.
