Impounding of automobiles found parked in restricted zones, near fire hydrants, on one-way streets, on streets where parking is prohibited between certain hours and other places where parking is prohibited, started about three weeks ago, has resulted in an appreciable improvement in traf- fic conditions, according to the police. Cars found parked in violation of law | are immediately impounded and towed away by the police, requiring their owner to visit a police station snd identify the property before being per- | JO! mitted to deposit collateral and drive away. PRIEST SAYS CONTINENT IS SHIFTING WESTWARD . | Gravity Chart Tends to Show Oscillation of Earth’s Crust, Avers Lejay. By the Associated Press. MARSEILLES, France, July 5.—In- dications that the American continént is flnwly moving westward were fe- yesterday by Father Lejay, dlnclor of the Zicawel Observatory near Shanghai. The priest, arriving here en route to Paris for the convention of the International Astronomical Union, said hig calculations for s gravity chart tended to show a shifting in the earth’s crust. Asla, he reported, oscillated as much as 30 yards over monthly periods. Scientists in Paris are skeptical of Father Lejay’s ability to prove that the earth is shifting, but said they eagerly awaited his report to the convention. NAME D. A. V.
