GREAT FALLSSPA INDORSEDBYAAA, Advisory Board Opposes Toll Bricge and Advises Site Below Falls. Construction of a free bridge at Great Falls was unanimously in- dorsed at the monthly meeting yes- terday of the Advisory Board of the A. A. A. District Motor Club. The board definitely opposed a toll bridge. A Great Falls bridge is necessary, 1t was reported, to afford a connecting link for a North and South highway which would permit commercial traf- fic to by-pass Washington, relieving traffic congestion, and to make pos- sible the development of a great scenic park in Maryland and Vir- ginia adjoining the Potomac, along lines of development already partially completed. Prefer Site Below Falls. It was the unanimous opinion of the board that the bridge should be | constructed below Great Falls so as | not to interfere with the development of power at the falls if such a project should be undertaken now or in the future. The board is expected to confer | soon with highway and civic authori- ties in Maryland and Virginia to fa- cilitate joint action on the project. This plan was approved by the Vir- ginia and Maryland representatives on the board—Clarence R. Ahalt, as sociate justice of the County Court, Arlington County, Va., and Robert Bondy, president of the Federation of Citizens’ Associations of Montgomery County, Md. The board adopted a resolution recommending that there be created a committee representing Washington civic and commercial interests to study and report on proposals for a subway to relieve traffic congestion in the central area of the city.
