THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C. TUESDAY, APRIL 30, 1935. GENEVA ASSURED ONRUSSIAN PACT Moscow “Says Agreement With French Recognizes League’s Decisions. Goenls FEEEFPHONE DISTRICT 43m Here is the FIRST of our GCreater MAY LINGERlE EVENTS' By the Associated Press. MOSCOW, April 30.—The Soviet government took steps yesterday to al- lay any fears that the Franco-Russian mutual assistance pact would be set up outside the League of Nations and thereby strike a blow to the prestige of the Geneva organization. Assurance was given in an official ecommunique that whatever armed aid either party to the treaty might ren- | der would depend on the decision of the League Council. Many League supporters had viewed the possibility of an independent agreement with uneasiness, especially because it is likely to be followed by a whole network of mutual assistance pacts modeled along similar lines. In light of the government’s state- ment, observers here are expressing the opinion the accord may actually add to the strength and prestige of the League. Agree on Provision. The communique said France and Russia have been in agreement on the League Council provision from the beginning of their negotiations. This statement denied press reports that differences arose over the Rus- sian demand that military assistance in case of aggression against either party be automatic. The Soviet explanation said the difficulties which recently caused sus- Man-Tailored SUITS of Genuine Congo Cloth .forAir-Cooled Smartness 15 Suits as trim and good looking as those for which you have envied men in past hot Summers! Litvinoft Wires Instructions. Maxim Litvinoff, commissar for for- eign affairs, who was recalled to Mos- cow from Geneva when negotiations were suspended, telegraphed new in- structions to Ambassador Vladimir Potemkin in Paris Thursday. On the basis of this new outline of procedure, it was hoped formal agreement may be signed in May. Meanwhile authorized quarters said the Russo-Czech credit negotiations had been suspended temporarily. | Dispatches from Praha, where the ! negotiations were carried on, quoted Czechoslovak newspapers as blam- Ing the breakdown on delays created by the Czech banking censortium. which was to back the credit arrange- ment, LETTERS ARE READ AT WOMAN’S TRIAL Broker Who Mixed Love and Business Quizzed After Tes- tifying Against Her. By the Assoclated Press. LAFAYETTE, Ind, April 30.—The | “love and business” letters Murglret.‘ Cheney wrote to James Cameron | Moag, New York and Chicago broker, | | were matched at her trial for false | entry yesterday by notes of slmulr‘ character he addressed to her. Miss Cheney was secretary-treas- | urer of the Tippecanoe Loan & Trust 5 Co. before it closed. Moag's firm, the | former Cameron & Co., for several | years handled security transactions for the bank. The debonair broker was on the witness stand under cross-examina- tion yesterday as Daniel Flanagan, defense attorney, read the letters he wrote the woman banker. In one, Moag said he would “be around with [ :parkler that will knock your eyes out.” Moag said he had returned from New York voluntarily at his own ex- pense and denied he was offered im- munity for his testimony. He testified at one time his firm owed the bank securities of $173,000 market value, which never were re- paid. The trial resumed after an adjourn- ment taken April 12, when P'llnmn became {11 Husband Is Upheld By Supreme Court In Alimony Fight Retired Naval Comdr. Bloedorn Need Not Pay $200 a Month By the Associated Press. The $200-a-month saving which Walter A. Bloedorn, retired naval commander, obtained by getting a divorce was in effect sustained yester- day by the Supreme Court. The tribunal refused to review a decision of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals holding that Bloe- dorn need not continue to pay May Howard Bloedorn, his former wife, a maintenance allowance of $275 a month, Mrs. Bloedorn brought suit in the District court in 1929 for a mainte- nance allowance for herself and a 10-year-old child. In 1931, under a consent decree, the court ordered Bloedorn to pay her $275 a month. In 1932 Bloedorn sued for divorce in the Arlington County, Va., courts. It was granted in 1933 and he was ordered to pay $75 a month for main- tenarce of the child. When Bloedorn thereupon reduced his monthly payments by $200 Mrs. Bloedorn sued in District courts to compel him to pay the full amount. ‘The Court of Appeals ordered the $275 peid only until January 4, 1934, the date Bloedorn filed an answer opposing continuation of the $275 payment.
