G4 FINANCIAL THE SUNDAY STAR., WASHINGTON, D. C., MARCH 17, 1935—PART FIVE. FINANCIAL. OIL SHARES GAIN INCURB MARKET Other Groups Trendless in Irregular Trading as Week Closes. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, March 16—Curb market price changes, for the most part, were confined to minor fractions today. Oil issues recorded moderate improvement, while other groups were generally trendless. Activity continued restricted, trans- fers approximating 60,000 shares, compared with 51,000 a week ago. Among petroleum shares, Standard il of Kentucky and Humble Oil ad- vanced about a point each, while Gulf ©Oil and International Petroleum were & rifle higher. Newmont Mining got up a point and Lake Shore was a shade improved. A. O. Smith added a frac- tion of its spectacular advance yester- day. Electric Bond & Share, Ameri- can Gas & Electric, American Cyana- mid “B” and others were narrow. Chicago Grain By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, March 16.—The Pull- man Co., sleeping car company affil- {ate of Pullman, Inc., today reported gross revenue of $4,231,088 for Jan- uary, compared with $3,722,196 for January, 1934, and net revenue of $89.300 fer the month, compared with (& $315744 net for the same month a vear ago. George A. Kelly. vice president of the company. said the decline in net | revenue compared with the similar period of 1934 was due principally to increased expenses for car main- | tenance. Commodity Price Changes for Week BY H. N. McGILL. McGIll Commodity Service, Inc. rndale, Mass. AUBURNDALE, Mass., March 16 (#).—The most radical decline in commodity prices in many months occurred during the past week. The Editor. ton collapsing sharply under the 12- cent level, which represents the Gov- | ernment loan base. This was a signal for price weakness in other speculative commoedities, not only in agricultural | products but In vegetable oils. Dur- | ing the week only two groups record- ed strength, namely, live stock and | non-ferrous *metals. Seven groups, however, ruled lower, while five re- mained unchanged. Industrial prices moved downward | sharply, caused by a lower price ave- erage for fuels, hides and leather, paint materials and fine textiles. In- dustrial activity also averaged lower as compared with the opening week of the month. Farm Prices Down. Agricultural prices “are now at the lowest point since last July. In addi- tion to sharply lower prices for cotton, lower quotations were also noted in rye and dairy products, particularly butter and eggs. Flaxseed, corn and oats are the only items that averaged | slightly higher than the previous week Live stock prices recorded the only increase of importance. Although the | price trends were mixed, hogs and lambs were lower than the previous | week, but this reaction was more than | counteracted by higher quotations for cattle and sheep. Hides and leather represent another group that declined sharply, reflecting a 1-cent decline in the price of hides. Non-ferrous metals represent the second group to advance as there were s | no declines, and silver and tin ad- | vanced. Paint materials were slightly lower, caused by price weakness in rosin and i | turpentine. Fine Textiles Slump. Fine textiles recorded the greatest proportionate decline of any group, as | in addition to lower quotations for | cotton, yarns and finished goods ruled | lower and the underlying trend of raw silk prices was downward. Vegetable oils turned abruptly down- werd, following a sensational advance | that had continued for over a year. | | The reaction was almost entirely due to a 1-cent decline in cottonseed oil, | ® | although palm oil was down moder- | ately. The only advance was of a fractional nature in China wood oil. Most important price changes in the McGill weekly index (1926 equaling 100) were as follows: Mar. 15, Mar 5.
