PHILLIPS, Associated Press Financial Writer, NEW YORK, December 13.—The curb market continued in a narrow trading area into the final hour today. Trading was quiet and in other than specialties price changes were con- fined to the fractional type. Among specialties advancing 1 to points were United Shoe Machinery, A. O. DETROIT, December 13.—Contrast- ing sharply with conditions that pre- vailed at this time a year ago, the motor car industry has its new model work well in hand and there is little likelihood that any maker will have to present a “handmade” model at the New York show that opens Jan- uary 5. Due to labor troubles and other dif- ficulties, many producers actually had to make special models for presenta- tion last January at the first of annual motor car shows. The forthcoming shows and new models are occupying trade interests at the moment. The manufacturing di- vision has withdrawn its direct spon- sorship of the New York and Chicago shows, but the dealer organizations taking over the responsibility are to have as directing head for the shows the same executive who managed them | ducers. With Alfred G. Rgeves, general man- | ager of the AutomoBile Manufacturers’ Association, handling the two leading shows, the trade generally looks upon them as retaining all the importance that has attached to them in past years. With the shift from producer to dealer sponsorship, the Ford Motor Co. will have space in the presentation at | the Grand Central Palace, New York, a step it has avoided heretofore in line with the Ford policy of “going it alone.” ‘The new types of several producers already have been shown, and coming Gibson Art Co Otis Elevator Co.. o000 0 D nooccnomoooomoomfloo-oDcoo this week end will be the Buick 1935 model, with others of the General Motors lines to follow. Production programs indicate a total output for the month of close to 150,- 000 units. With this the year's ag- gregate will approximate 2,800,000. Reports tell of well cleaned up dealer stocks. Several of the makers have arranged dealer meetings with the factory sales divisions. These meetings will con- tinue uniil the sales organizations of each company have been thoroughly familiarized with all the sales promo- tion points develuped in connection with the 1935 models. LONDON, December 13.—The United States dollar lost 4 cent to the pound today, closing at 4.94 5/16 to the pound as compared with yesterday's close of 4.94 1/16. The opening was at 49475, The French franc closed at 74.93 to the pound as compared to yesterday's close of 75.06. The price of bar gold advanced 3!} pence to 140 shillings, 8!2 pence ($34.76) a fine ounce, and an amount valued at £423,000 ($1,892,263.75) was purchased.
