JAGGER, Associated Press Financial Editor. ! NEW YORK, April 22—The stock ‘market briskly resumed its advance after bsorbing a little more selling at the points. Trading was active, turnover for the two-hour session of about 2,300.000 shares. While fluctuations narrowed in for- eign exchanges, speculative quarters ‘were imbued with the idea that the ad- ministration was committed to a pro- gram of an inflationary rise in prices, and the advance was readily resumed in commodities as well as shares, after the profit-taking selling movement which started yesterday was completed. Trade Reports Cheerfal Business news at the end of the week tontinued moderately cheerful. The weekly report of freight car loadings or class 1 roads showed a gain of 6,919 cars over the previous week, which was substantially better than seasonal. This Teport was for the week ended last Sat- urday. Railroad quarters reported that the freight movement had been well pustained this week. Some further Bains in steel ingot output were indi- tated in reports from that industry. ‘The usual Spring upswing in business seemed to be reaching its peak some several weeks later than usual, and Wall Street prognosticators were trying to decide how long it would continue be- fore the Summer lull sets in. ‘The stock ticker was kept humming through the session by active trading, but buying was in smaller lots today, ‘with relatively few transactions of over 1,000 shares. Metal shares were again prominent in the rise. American Can end United States Smelting rose 4 points. American Tobacco B was strong, also up about 4. News tickers said its April sales of popular cigarettes would exceed the like month of last year, as Tesult of the recent price cut. Issues up 2 points or more included Pu Pont, Cerro de Pasco, American Sugar, South Puerto Rico Sugar, Inter- national Silver, Allled Chemical, Union Pacific, Corn Products and others, while issues up a point or more included United States Steel, American Tele- phone, Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Ana- conda, Kennecott, International Har- | R vester, Pennsylvania and United Fruit. Utilities did not participate much in the advance, but closed with numerous small gains. Standard of New Jersey, and Montgomery Ward advanced frac- tions in active trading. Rally in Commodities.
