Women Members Gueats Of Columbian Women Representative Virginia Jenckes of Indiana, and Representative Kathryn O'Loughlin McCarthy of Kansas, the two newest women members of Cong- ress, will be gwests of honor and speak- ers at the luncheon to be given by Co- umbian Women of the George Wash- ington University, Saturday at 1:30 o'clock at the Hay-Adams House. Women of charm and achievement, Mrs. Jenckes and Mrs. McCarthy are interesting additions to Washington's official family. Mrs. Jenckes is a member of a family who for four generations have made Vincennes, Ind., their home. She is the owner of 400 acres of farm land which she manages herself as a model farm. She was active in the organization of the Wabash-Maumee Valley Improve- ment Association, formed with the ob- ject of securing navigation and irriga- tion improvements. In her recent cam- paign, during which she stumped the State by automobile with her attrac- tive young daughter, Miss Virginia Jenckes, acting as chauffeur, the new Congresswoman from Indiana defeated both a Democrat and a Republican ap- ponent. Representative McCarthy was a prom- inent woman member of the legal pro- fession prior to her entrance into poli- tics. A graduate of the University of Chicago Law School, she practiced law in Chicago for seven and a half years. She was associated with the Legal Aid Bureau there and also was attorney for the Public Welfare Board of Cook County. Four and a half years ago she returned to her home State, and for two years prior to her election to Congress she served in the Kansas State Legislature. Mrs. McCarghy came to Washington as & bride, her marriage having taken place shortly after her election.
