Miss Helen Cannon's Betrothal Announced; Autumn Rites Planned Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sommers Leave Alexan- dria for Pittsburgh. ALEXANDRIA, Va., October 3.—Mr. and Mrs. Ira E. Cannon announce the engagement_of their daughter, Helen Newell, to Mr. Charles Franklin Wil- Joughby Clarke, formerly of Ashland, Va. and now of Washington. The wedding will take place late in the Autumn. Mr. and Mrs. John iloyd Uhler have returned to their home in Pittsburgh after a visit to the former’s brother-in- Jaw and sister, Mr. and M s Sommers, on North Washing Mr. and Mrs. Sommers also had =: guests recently their cousins, Mrs. A. Madison Campbell of Washington, for- merly of Rosalia, Wash., were married Saturday evening, September 26, in the wome of the bride’s mother, the Rev. O. 4. Beall officiating. The drawing room, wrhere the ceremony was performed, was decorated with palms, ferns, dahlias and other Autumn flowers and lighted with candles. The bride was given in marriage by her eldest brother, Dr. Robert C. Yates of the University of Maryland. Her gown was of white silk net over satin, and her tulle veil was fastened to a lace cap and caught with orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of poiret Toses and valley lilies. Miss Margaret Louise Sellers of Cul- peper. a cousin of the bride, was maid of honor and wore a gown of ecru em- broidered net and carried a_cluster of pink roses. Miss Helen Teague of Raleigh, N. C.. was bridesmaid and was in light blue embroidered net and car- ried pink roses. Paul B. Yates, 2d, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer, and Jean Porter Yates, her small piece, was flower girl Dr. Edward T. Reaser of Huntington, | W. Va., was best man for Dr. Campbell. A reception followed when Mrs. Yates, mother of the bride, and Mrs. F. M Campbell of Rosalia, Wash., mother of the bridegroom, assisted in receiving. Later Dr. and Mrs. Campbell left for a Northern wedding trip, the latter wearing a gown of Spanish wool crepe, trimned with astrakan fur and a small black hat. After October 1 they will live at 180 Brothers place in Wash- ington. Dr. Campbell, who is a gradu- ate of the medical school of the Uni- versity of Oregon, is a specialist in psychiatry and for some time past has been connected with St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
