A—14 wx=x FIN DECISION ON BONUS QUESTION IS NEAR) Bethiehem System of Pay- ments’ to' Be Thrashed Out April 14. BY JOHN F. SINCLAIR. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, March 26.—“I read what Mr. Schwab said about the Beth- lehem Steel bonus system,” writes R. 8., “but I'm not satisfied to hear only one side of this controversy. I am & stock- holder in this company. I have waited seven years to get a dividend and in the meantime the officials haye been draw! a sum of money which, had it been 'lth the company, would have improved when they were forced to go into the open market to borrow money or ask their stockholders for additional sums.” Nfl;l’. No “Voluntary Disclosure.” The committee brings out the faet, too, that during the year 1930, the com- pany failed to earn its dividends. Nev- ertheless, it paid a bonus of $1,015,591 to President Grace. One charge made by this committee is that there never has been a “voluntary disclosure” of the bonus system. Steel irgot productlnn week | Fir LIST HOLDS FIRM ... s1%:Domestic Group in Upward Trend, but Foreign Is- sues Sag. BY F. H. RICHARDSON. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, March 26.—Despite & total of neuly $100,000,000 in new bonds brought out today, outstandin issues were strong everywhere excep in the Foreign Depart.ment. Invest- ment men incline the view now that, while there hu been no great price improvement in bonds, their gen- eral ess in the face of the heavy ofleflnn of deglt four weeks can be itely bullish. 'Dodlyn oflermn included a South- ern Pacific issue of 4!5s priced to yleld about 4.67 per cent, and a Public Serv- ice Electric & Gas Co. 4 per cent issue priced to yleld 4.33 per cent. Both were well received and commanded small premiums in the unofficial market. Outstanding obligations of these com- es were not affected by the new ids, which was another point in the market's favor. Prime issues ?nen.uy were un- changed to ctionally better, with emphasis laid on such bonds as Ameri- can Telephone Collateral Trust S5s, Atchison General 4s. Brooklyn-Mai hattan Transit 6s, Chesapeake Ccrpor- ation s, Great Northern 7s, National Dalry 5Ys, New Haven 4ls, North American Co. 5s, Pennsyvania fllz: Philadelphia Co. 5s, South Raflway 4s, Standard Oil of New Jersey 5s, Utah Power & Light 5s, and Youngstown Sheet & Tube 5s. Another. significant phase of bond trading today was the active interest shown in junior bonds such as Con- solidation Coal of Maryland 5s, which, above 41, were 16 points over their low of last week. This reflected improve- ment in the coal trade and a report that June 1 interest on the bonds would be. paid. Pathe 7s. were again strong and 33 points above their 1931 low. Smaller advances were noted in Phi lips Petroleum 5%s, Richfleld Oil 6s, Shell Union Ofl 5s, Missouri-Pacific 4s and Ss, International Telephone 5s, In- ternational match 5s, Goodyear 5s, Erie 5s and American & Foreign Power 5s. Anglo-Chilean Nitrate 7s were weak, reflecting along with Lautaro Nitrate 6s and Chilean government bondl. the conflicting reports concerning the Cosach Nitrate merg ‘The weakest issues in the forei mup were the Australians. Prem new of New South Wales was reported to be arr: to pay $625,000 interest due in New York April 1, but Prime ter Scullin of Australia announced that Lang did not intend to meet any. of the interest due simultaneously in London. This caused drops of 1 to 3 points in Australian 4l2s and 5s, New South Wales 5s, Queenland 6s and 7s and Sydney 5%s. Germans were -also weak, chiefly on renewed weakness in the reichsmark. Young Plan 5ls dropped a point, Central Bank issues were off n'lcuomxly and German ‘municipals were heavy. South Amgrlum lud a dull tone, e Washington Stock Exchauge SALES.
