W. H. MCONNELL NAMED.0.0F. HEAD Member of Federal City Lodge Elected Grand Master of District of Columbia. William H. McConnell, a member of Federal City Lodge, No. 20, 1. 0. O. F., was unanimously elected grand master of Odd Fellows in the District of Co- lumbia at the annual session of the Grand_Lodge held last night at tre: Odd Fellows' Temple, 419 Seventh street. McConnell's home is at 813 Tenth street northeast. in 1905 from Kentucky, where he had served more than five years as secre- tary of the Kentucky Educational As- eociation, after having taught school in the State for more than 11 years. He became connected with the order at English, Ky., in 1903, transferring to Federal City Lodge in 1906, shortly after he moved into the District. For the past 15 years he has been director of the second degree team of that lodge. Mr. McConnell is in the Post Office Department Division of the General Ac- counting Office, in which office he has n employed since entering the Gov- ernment service in 1905, JOBLESS MAN TO GET ON $5,000 RADIO IDEA Newark Man Takes First Award in National Con- test. _ Peter Copeland of Newark, N. J., and @t present unemployed, is announced as the winner of international contest con- ducted by the Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co. for new ideas in radio cabinet construction. He will Teceive $5,000. Second prize of $2,000 went to Lucy, K. Wilkes of New York, and third prize of $1,000 to Charles P. Bassett of Pitts- burgh. There are 45 other cash prizes ranging from $25 to $200, but none was won by contestants in Washington or mearby Maryland and Virginia. As a result of the contest, Westing- house will introduce a new and novel receiving set early next month, contain- ing some of the best features submitted by the winning contestants. It will be encased in a slim, vertical cabinet, 59 inches high and occupying a floor area of 10x12 inches. An electric clock will be on the front face of the set. TELLS OF PHONE LINKS W. W.
