By the Associated Press. MIAMI BEACH, Fla, January 20.— Cyrus H. K. Curtis, president of the Curtis Publishing Co. told 200 members and guests of the Committee of One Hundred social organization, Tuesday that intelligent advertising “will make your fortunes.”” Mr. Curtis was speaking at a meet- ing of the committee at the Miami g;ach home of Gar Wood, speedboat He decried a policy of attempting to save expensss by culting down on advertising. “My company which spent $1,000, 000 last year for advertising, plans to spend $2,000,000 this year.” Charles F. PETERSBURG, Fla., January 29. —Former Gov. Harry F. Byrd of Vir- ginia, chairman of the Drought Com- mission of his State, Tuesday sent a telegram to Representative R. Walton Moore in which he “challenges” Secre- tary of Agriculture Hyde to reconvene the drought chairmen to determine the ctary’s exact stand on drought re- lief_proposals. Chairman Byrd, here for a brief va- cation, asserted in his communication to Representative Moore that Secretary Hyde did indorse, in spite of his re- ported denial, the resolution adopted by the Drought Conference recommending loans to States for construction or cheaper types of roads. Secretary Hyde's recollection of what occurred at the Drought Conference, Mr. Byrd said, “is so much at variance with the views of a large majority of | the chairmen attending, not only with ! respect to this particular subject, but in other important matters, that I chal- lenge him to reconvene the drougm chairmen so as to determine the truth.” Mr. Byrd said another meeting “should be held for other important reasons, but especially should the ac- tual facts be established and avoid the confusion created in Congress occa- sioned by a misinterpretation of the ‘happenings of the conference.” —_— Commissioned in Reserve Corps.
