THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON 0 D. C., SEPTEMBER 17, FRST DMSIN [ or s arvomes svrem soraoe s EEGUTVE TELLS WILL MEET HERE Annual Reunion Will Be Held From October 23 to 25, Inclusive. Veterans of the famous First Division of the American Expeditionary Forces will hold their annual reunion in Wash- ington October 23 to 25, inclusive. Ap- proximately 87,000 men served at one time or another in the division during the World War. The approaching reunion is one of significance as a war memorial bearing the names of 5,598 dead of the division ‘was erected in Washington in 1924, Gen. Charles P. Summerall, retiring Chief of Staff of the Army and who is president of the First Division So- ciety, being former divisional com- magdcr‘ in a message to the veterans, said: “We now propose to assemble this year at the home of the shrine to our dead, to honor their memory and to feel the bonds of comradeship that unite the living. For me, the senti- ment is especially strong, as it will be my last meeting with you while on the active list of the Army. It is my hope to greet at least as many of our com- rades as came to the dedication of the monument, and to the great number who want to come and cannot do so, and especially to our wounded and the fam- 1lies of our dead I send my affection- ate remembrance and gratitude for all that they have done in service and fidelity, and my fervent wish for their happiness and success in life.” ‘The District of Columbia, Maryland and West Virginia contributed both National Guard and National Army troops to fill the gaps in the ranks made by the division's battle casualties. There will be from 4,500 to 5,000 fish to be distrib- uted, ranking in size from 2 to 18 inches. Many of these fish will spawn next season. All of them have been produced by the local breeding pond through efforts of members of the branch. Some months ago the branch decided that the distribution of fish would not be made until Fall. There was dis- cussiom whether it would be better to stock the streams with fingerlings or wait ahd place in the streams a large number that spawn -next season. By the decision that was made the local streams will be stocked. Had the fish been distributed last igflng it is likely about 90 per cent of them would have been destroyed by the drought. For- tunately Marion County streams will have a sufficient number of fish for good fishing next year and the stock will be greatly multiplied during the year. Another matter that, will come before the meeting will be the appointment of a Legislative Committee that will keep in close touch with legislative mat- ters pertaining to fish, game, streams end forests. in DiNING RooMm FUuRNITURE you: MBTB/ER may be the period in Dining Room furniture that appeals to you most, you are reasomably sure to find it among our many well chosen groups — all of them corvéctly designed, masterfully made and all reduced in this Sale. Itis now 360 By the Associated Press. RICHMOND, Va., September 6. —The importance of correctly filed birth cer- tificates was urged by Dr. W. A. Plecker, registrar of the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Department of Health. He suggested that mothers should at once look up the birth certificates of their children and have them at hand when school opens within a few days. Dr. Plecker pointed out that certifi- cates are needed by children when they reach the age of 14 in order to work under the child labor law, by persons desiring to secure soldiers’ pensions and compensations, by those who apply for passports to travel abroad and other ses. “You adults are applying in vain for birth certificates to use in taking civil service examinations for Government positions,” he said. “The jobs of many policemen and chauffeurs depend upon producing Virginia birth certificates, which do not exist because the appli- cants were born before June 14, 1912.” Securing workmen's compensation frequently depends upon producing birth and death certificates from the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Dr. Plecker f L] sald. 7/‘ Danville Seeks School Funds.
