A—14 kwx ADVANCE IN BONDS | HALTED BY CREDIT Increase in Time Money; Rates Joins With New Issues to Slow Down Market. BY F. H. RICHARDSON, @pecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, July 15 (C.P.A).—An advance of '{ per cent'in time money, making the 90-day rate today 2% to 3 p.- cent, comparedswith 2!, to 234 per cent on Monday, together with the of- fering of new bonds totaling about $33,- 000,000, interrupted the upward prog- Tess of the bond market today. ‘The frregularity was most apparent in the foreign department and in junior raflroad securities, the balance of the list remaining unchanged or gaining fractionally. The feature of the day was the pub- He offering of the new Austrian inter- national loan. Of the total of $102- 000,000 to be floated, only $55,000,000 is ut out at this time. of which New ork's share is $25.000,000. The bonds carry a 7 per cent coupon and are priced at 95. They have a redeemable price of 103 after January 1, 1932. ‘The official announcement of the terms contained no surprises, and the only direct effect was a drop of a small fraction in the outstanding Austrian %s. These are currently quoted around 103, though the call price is par. The balance of the $55,000.000 is offered as follows: London, £3,000.000; Holland, £500,000; Sweden, 10,000,000 kroner: Switzerland, 25,000,000 Swiss francs; Italy, 10,000,000 lire, and Austria, 50, 000,000 schillings. Paris took no part, the French government desiring a clear road for Prench issues presently in| Pprocess of distribution. An interesting issue in prospect is $5.000,000 of Sloss Sheflield Steel & Iron Co. one-year 45 per cent notes matur- | ing August 31. They have been sold to Goldman, Sachs & Co. The proceeds will be used, together with treasury cash, to retire $6,500,000 one-year notes due August 1, 1930. The California Packing offering of $15,000,000 convert- ible 5 per cent debentures, announced on Monday, was sold out today and the books closed. The price was par. Influenced by these new issues, buy- ing of listed bonds fell off. especiaily in the foreigns. There were losses in German 515s, Saxon State 8s, Deutsche Bank 6s, Belgian 7s, Italy 7s, Rome 6'2s, Finland 7s, Argentine 6s, Brazil 6155, San Paulo 7s and extremely dull trading in the rest of the list. Japanese issues were the only national group to show strength (Copyright. 1930.) Washington Stock Exchange SALES. Capital Traction 55—8$500 at 92. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, July 15.-—Indications of liberal export business in United States | wheat by way of the Gulf of Mexico idld much to lift the wheat market to- |day. Relative high prices for corn as compared with wheat formed another outstanding factor that tended to hoist wheat values. The spread between corn prices and those for wheat was said to ibe the smallest since 1895, when corn sold at 5 cents & bushel over wheat for a brief period, whereas later in the same year wheat went to 51 cents over corn. PRICES FOR FARM L PRODUCTS DECLINE Lower Level Reached in Sec- ond Week of July, but Some Gains Are in Evidence. ‘While lower prices on farm products were again the rule the second week of July, the further declines were not severe and there were some gains or re- Livestock and cotton lost but little ground. Wheat and millfeeds went down, while corn was advancing. Wool trade was dull and prices steady. But« ter and eggs sold higher. Cheese prices held, but dressed poultry brought slight- ly lower returns with the increasing supply of young birds. Heavy potatc shipments resulted in price declines. Crop prospects sum up more favorably than a year ago. From about the same pected because of higher yield per acre. but still not quite up to the 10-yeat average. Best condition in general i along the East and West Coasts an. around the Great Lakes. Apple Prospects Good. July apple crop prospects are much like those of a year ago. Sizes of the expected market crop and the propo tion of the box and barrel crops are nearly the same as in 1929. The North Atlantic region and the Far West fare better than the South and Middle West, Prospects for the export trade are im- proving because of reduced fruit crops in Europe. Potato markets tended downward through the first half of July. Eastern Shore f. 0. b. prices struck $2.25 per 100 pounds, but recovered partly. Haulings were heavy and movement from the Eastern Shore of Virginia increased, but the Norfolk section showed decreased output. A Though movement of Georgia peaches decreased temporarily, medium to large sized Belles were lower at shipping points at $2 to $2.25 per six-baskel crate. Reports from North Carolina showed a good demand for Hileys al $2.50 to $3 per crate. A general jobbing range of $2.50 to $4.50 prevailed in city markets for most of the Southeastern peaches. The Southern Georgia mar- ket for watermelons was very weak al $25 to $100 per carload. Northern ma: kets reported Southeastern melons mos ly at $200 to $285 per carload or 25 cents to 65 cents per melon. Shipments of onions have increased this month from the i.termediate sec- tlons. Massachusetts and Illinois started active movement. Bushel hampers of | onions from New Jersey sold at $1.50 to $1.75. Canialoupe markets were very weak. Standard crates from Georg! and South Carolina ruled $1 to $2 in a few cities. New York Big Boston lettuce showed a wide range of 25 cents to $1.13 per carte in terminal markets. Better Eggs in Demand. In the egg market of mid-July, the greatest demand was for the upper grades. Particular buyers experienced not a little difficulty in filling thei1 wants with this class of goods. Prices while irregular on the upper grades which were commanding sizeable pre- miums in many instances, advanced fur- ther on all grades. An increasing supply of broilers and fryers was largely responsible for the declines on these classes of dressed poul try during the second week of July. Old stock continued steady in price. Butter markets were firm near the middle of July, with considerable confi- dence expressed in the present prices, Reports show a decline in the “make" of butter. The cheese position became more settled, and the ruling tone was steady with the price differential be- tween dealers asking prices and original factory cost averaging around 1 cent on the large styles and three-fourths ta seven-eighths of a cent on the small styles. Trading was fair and the volume of goods moved somewhat larger than for the past several weeks, due to an improved carlot demand. The general opinion of the trade apparently was that cheese prices have reached the low point for the season, and that from now on quotations will work upward. State cheese in New York continues steady in price. The Gouveneur, New York board, remained unchanged at 16!, cents. Storage holdings of American cheese in the United States on July 1 amounted to 70,209,000 pounds—the heaviest July 1 holdings on record. Baltimore Markets Special Dispatch to The Star.
