The John Quincy Adams School, at | Nineteenth and California streets, latest jof & line of handsome buildings designed to “exemplify the best in school house planning and construction,” was dedi cated formally last night when Maj. Donald A. Davison, U. S. A., Assistant Engineer Commissioner of the Distriet, presented the structure to the Board of Education and the children who will tend its classes, Nearly 800 persons, including parehts, puplls, teachers and school ofcers, wit nessed the dedicatory exercises, which were presided over by Robert L. Hay- cock, assistant superintendent in cha of elementary schools. Pollowing the program in the auditorium the vlul'nfl wandered through the buflding's tiled torridors and up-to-date class rooms, * expressing their approval of the pre- tentious contribution which Municipal Arehn«t Albert L. Harris has made in it to the Capital's school system. Called “Service Station.” The Adams School was likened to a “service station” catering to the needs of Wllhln'u)nl children on their travels down road to knowledge by Dr. Prank W. Ballou, superintendent of schools. Invitations had been extend- ed to Charles Prancis Adams, Secretary of the Navy, to attend the exercises since they marked the dedication of a bullding named by the cabinet office illustrious forebear. Secretary Adams, however, had a previous engagement to present diplomas at a college commence- ment, and his place on program was taken by Dr. Ballou. ‘The building was formally received on behalf of the Board of Education by Dr. H. Barrett Learned, vice presi- dent of the board, and on behalf of the school's own personnel by Miss M. Florence Gore, principal. Rev. Bare nard Braskamp, pastor of the Gunton Temple Memorial Presbyterian Church, sald the invocation at the nvenln‘ of the exercises, and Rev. George Dud- ley, rector of St. Stephen’s Chlll’ch. intoned the concluding benediction. Music on Program. Music played an important part in the program, with generous selections being played by the United States Navy Band not o during the exercises but the “open-house” visiting period as well. The John Quincy Adams Glee Club, composed of D\.Iplll of the school, contributed its share to the program with the singing of several songs, in- cluding its own school song, which rolllcled to the tune of the Univer- sity of Maine's “Stein Song.” The club h und!l the faculty direction of Mrs, Paris and Miss F. R. Noack. 1'ho Adlm School’s student body Was made up of puplls from the old Adams School, which has been abandon from the Morgan School, which h been transferred to the colored school divisions, and from certain classes in the Force School.
