WALLERIS PRAISED | AS BANKERS' GHIEF Testimonial Presented to President of Association at Luncheon Meeting. BY EDWARD C. STONE. Wilmer J. Waller, president of the Pistrict Bankers' Association, was paid glowing tribute by his associates today at the final mecting of the bankers' luncheon group be- fore the ~ annual convention. After the usual Wednes- day luncheon at the Willard _this noon, C. H. Pope, sscretary .of the association, pre- sented Mr. Waller with a handsomely framed set of reso- jutions expressing highest apprecia- tion of the splendid service he has rendered the or- ganization during the past year. ‘The resolutions referred especially 10 the mature experience which he had brought to bear on the association’s affairs during the past 12 months, the amount of time he has devoted to the work, and the able guidance displayed in furtherance of the welfare of the association. Mr. Pope’s remarks were very brief and right to the point, the secretary preferring to let the gift speak for itself. The resolutions were signed by 46 ocal bankers. The signatures are most nteresting. Some are so distinctive ihat they can hardly be read whi others stand out as clearly as if type- -vritten. At any rate, President Waller Wilmer J. The sales ‘were in three 10-share lots and in other blocks of 5, 25 and 40 shares. American Ice Earnings Off. ‘Net earnings of American Ice Co. and subsidiaries for April were $220,135 after interest, but before Federal taxes and depreciation, compared with $341,- 764 in April, 1929. For the four months enced April 30, net earnings amounted to $450,384 before Federal taxes and depreciation, against $679,771 in first four months of previous year. Net income of the Norfolk & West- ern Railway for the four months ended April 30, 1930, was equal, after divi- dend requirements on the 4 per cent referred stock, to $6.43 per share on 406,507 shares of common stock, against $7.25 per share earned on 1.402,883 common shares in the first four months of last year. The Washington (Maryland) Sub- urban Sanitary Commission has asked for bids on $300,000 water main and sewer construction 4!2 per cent 30-50 year bonds to be dated June 1, 1930, to be known as series “V.” Sealed bids for the purchase of this issue will be re- ceived by the commission at its office in the Tower Building, Fourteenth and K streets, this city, at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 4. In asking for bids the com- mission makes this financial statement: Assessed valuation for 1929: Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties, $134,632,535; Washington sub- urban sanitary district, $86,134,336. Bonded debt of the Washington sub- urban district issued under the general act (not including this issue), $6,925,000. Assumed bonds, $215,500. Sinking fund, $329,306. Exports of foodstuffs to the European market registered a sharp increase dur- ing 1920, the Commerce Department | Corc reports.
