LONDON, May 6.—A dispute between the Roman Catholic Church and the state in the Island of Malta, Medi- terranean stronghold of the ' British Empire, echoed in the House of Com- mons yesterday. Reports have reached London that| the Catholic archbishop of Malta has announced that any one voting for Lord Strickland, present prime min- ister, or any member of the Constitu- tional party during the forthcoming e‘lecflom, would be committing a mortal sin.
