FINANCIAL BONDS HOLD FIRM IN QUIET MARKET . Prime Investment Issues Re- tain Striking Gains Made During Week. BY JOHN L. COOLEY. Associated Press Financial Writer. NEW YORK, March 22.—The bond market fluctuated narrowly today in a quiet Saturday session. Gains of the present week were easily maintained by the pivotal investment issues, which held very firm, especially in the railroad up. 'rgllpel of New York Stock Exchange bonds in this week of soaring prices totaled approximately $115,000,000, a new high for more than two years. The Curb's list has been extremely active, while dealings in unlisted securi- ties, which account for a heavy ma- jority of the bond trading,-reached al- ‘most phenomenal proportions. With a period of easy money generally | expected despite the week end advance from the 2 per cent level, there was no disposition to unload recent purchases today, and prices were virtually un- changed. Pennsylvania gold 5s, North- ern Pacific prior lien 4s, New York Cen- tral 5s, Frisco prior lien 4s. Santa Fe General 4s, Canadian Pacific 4s and Rock Island and Chesapeake & Ohio 4155 displayed marked firmness. Bos- ton & Maine 5s took a spurt of about a point. A $15,000,000 issue of first mort- gage 55 by this road is expected early next week. Seaboard 4s soared nearly 4 points, d Selbnll‘d all Florida 6s advanced 3'%. The trend toward speculative and semi-speculative industrials brought fair gains to numerous issues. Investment quiMes were quiet and steady. Con- wvertibles made small changes. Active forelgn bonds included the listings of Belgium and Australia, but price movements were not spectacular Liberty bonds and 'h'(msufl?s were dull NEW FOOD 00D FOR ANIMALS IS MADE IN PHILIPPINES By the Associated Pri LOS ANGELES, March 22—Dis- covery in the Philippines of a new method of drying bagasse flour to pre- vent fermentation has broadened the use of the product, which is derived from sugar cane. Formerly used only for plastic pur- poses in the manufacture of unbreak- able dolls, imitation marble floors and inlaid linoleums, it now is blended with molasses and great quantities are being imported to this district for feed for horses, cattle and chickens, as well as for manufacturing purposes. @HICAGO LIVE STOCK MARKET CHICAGO, March 22 (®) (United States ent of Agriculture).— Cattle—Receipts, 400 head; compared one week ago, fed steers and yearlings 25 to 50 cents, mostly 50 cents, lower; lower grades closed weak: better grades strong to unevenly higher than low time; dressed trade conditions biggest bearish factor making for declines in the face of smaller receipts; fat cows Jost 25 to 50 cents; best cutters and most butcher heifers held about steady; bulls, 25 to 40 cents lower and vealers, 25 to 50 cents higher; extreme top fed steers, 15.4 practical top, 14.25; bulk, 11.00a13.00; average cost fed steers and yearlings around 12.00; lowest of sea- son; stockers and feeders unevenly 25 e 'n‘.'.ep_"""‘n'."e'e'f'umfl% Nicad: Teseipts 8!
