In addition, the civic committee headed by William Knowles Cooper has arranged speaking engagements for Dr. Kernahan at civic clubs. Intimating that the manicurists of the country are bing denied a boon by the action of Thomas E. Robertson, commissioner of patents, in refusin to firmt him a patent for a liquid nail polish, Arthur D. Baker of Bronxville, N. Y., yesterday applied to the District Supreme Court for an order on the commissioner directing the issuance of the patent. Baker informs the court that the commissioner rejected his patent on the basis that liguid nail polish is cove ed by one British patent and two Ame can patents. His invention, Baker serts, contains improvements, binations, and methods not now in use. He is represented by Attorneys Robert 8. Allyn and Conway P. (#).—Radio waves have been employed at Albany Medical College of Unfon University to protect rabbits against an infectious disease. The rabbits were placed between two electrodes generating short radio waves, In 30 minutes the current induced fever ranging from 106 to 108 Fahrenheit. Inoculated with an infectious disease, they were given this radio treatment three times a week for seven weeks. C. M. Carpenter and R. A. Boak, of ! the medical college, report to the So- ciety of American Bacteriologists that these rabbits, with one exception, de- veloped no trace of the disease, although another group of rabbits, also inocul: ed. but not exposed to the radio, had ; the disease.
