ENPRINGHAM CASE ANATS ARRAL Former Minister in Health| Clinic Probe Still in | California. : By the Assoclated Press. | NEW YORK, September 12.—Sol | Ullman, assistant State’s attorney gen- | eral, said yesterday that Dr. James Empringham, former Episcopal minis- ter, who is accused of operating a health clinic, although not a holder of a medical degree, was still “somewhere in California.” The case against Empringham con- tinues active, Mr. Ullman said, but nothing can be done unt!l Empring- ham’s return to this jurisdiction, as he is charged only with a misdemeanor, under which he cannot be extradited from another State. Dr F. Scott McBride, head of the National Anti-Saloon League, issued a statement August 16 denying that Empringham_ever was State superin- * tendent of the Anti-Saloon League in New York. Claimed in Autobiography. Prominence was given to Dr. Emp- ringham’s early activities in connection with Anti-Saloon League matters be- cause of the fact that his own biography by himself and published in “Who's Who" claimed such connections. This biography was repeated in late editions, issued since the controversy engendered ,when Empringham canvassed the Prot- LANSBURGH & BRO ® 7th, 8th and E Sts—FAMOUS FOR QUALITY SINCE 1860—National 9800 In Progress!
