RESIDENT HOOVER entertained at dinner last evening, at the Executive Mansion, Mrs. Long- worth, wife of the Speaker of the House, and her brothers, Col. Theodore Roosevelt, newly appoint- ed Governor of Porto Rico, and Mr. Kermit Roosevelt. Others in the party were Mrs. Hughes, national committee- woman of Tennessee; Miss Florence Wardwell of New York, who arrived at the White House yesterday for a few days’ stay; Mrs. J. H. Large, sister of Mrs. Hoover, and Dr. Hubert Work, who 1s also a_house guest at the mansion. Mrs. Hoover, accompanied by her son, Mr. Allan Hoover, have arrived at Hot Springs, Va., where they went by motor yesterday. They will remain at the resort for several days. ‘The Secretary of War and Mrs. Good have accepted the invitation of the committee for the President’s Cup re- gatta to be held tomorrow and Satur- day on the Potomac River and will be among the distinguished guests view- ing the races from the Mendota. Sec- retary and Mrs. Good will be in the receiving line during the afternoon. Minister of Switzerland Host To Family Party. The Minister of Switzerland and Mme. Peter have with them for a fort- night their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Peter of New York, who are on their way from Hot Springs. Mrs. Thomas D. Schall, wife of Sena- tor Schall, left Washington yesterday by motor for Minnesota, accompanied by her sons, Midshipman Thomas D. . Schall, jr, and Mr. Richard Schall, and. Miss Marguerite Gillesple, daugh- ter of Col. Gillesple of West Point. Later in the Autumn Mr. Richard Schall will return to Shattuck School. Senator and Mrs. Tasker L. Oddle will return to Washington this after- noon from New York, where they ar- rived yesterday aboard the Western World from Brazil. Mrs. Samuel S. Sandberg, wife of the United States Shipping Board com- missioner, Miss Ella Tefft Sandberg and Miss Mary Jeannette Sandberg, who have been in Eurppe during the Sum- mer, sailed Wednesday for home on the'S. S. America. They will arrive in New York September 21 and come directly to Washington. Commissioner Sandberg, who was also in Europe, re- turned on September 2. Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Tuckerman and their family will close their Sum- mer home, in the Shinnecock Hills, today and return to their suburban home at Edgemoor, Md. Maj. John A. Gray. U. S. M. Larner have returned to Washington for a few days and are staying at the Mayflower.
