FINANCIAL CURB ISSUES REACT | | NEW YORK CURB MARKE INHEAY SELLNG - Market Loses Early Gains "' in Liquidation—Partial | Rally at End. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, September 12.—An irregular reaction late in the day can- celed earlier advances on the Curb Ex- change with mixed price changes at the close. The selling was heaviest an hour before the end with a final partial rally. The only reason for the down- ward trend was sympathy with a similar movement on the Stock Exchange. Notwithstanding the late selling two issues managed to make new peaks. One of them was National Investors, which at 391% was up 513 on the day after a rise of 30 points in the preceding Session. Another was Ground Gripper Shoe, which made a gain of some 3 points. Trading was heavy all dey, with the ticker behind business on the floor. Up to late in the afternoon the buyers had the better of it. Utilities, investment trusts, ofls and a few industrials furnished the most in- teresting movements. Natural gas stocks proved favorites among the utilities. as such shares as Memphis Natural Gas and United Gas reached record highs. National Fuel Gas and Arkansas Gas were well taken during part of the sessfon. Trading Features. National Public Service B also en- joyed a wide range, at one time being more than 9 points above its previous close. Along with the brisker demand for the Standard Cils, the pipe line shares benefitted. Among the miscellaneous oils some of the South American group, such as Venezuelan Petroleum, im- proved. Newmont Mining was a feature in the mine shares, rising to a new high on a gain of more than 6 points. The Bwana M'Kubwa Copper Mining Co., which made its initial appearance on the curb, was active but not much changed. Other mine shares were some- what lower. In the investment trust section Na- tional Investors, its subsidiary, Fourth National Investors, and Transamerica Corporation new, along with Reliance Management, which is forming a new ‘company, attracted most attention. The Goldman Sachs group, which has been subjected to much arbitrating and switching operations lately, was some- what better than in the preceding ses- sion. This was also true of Blue Ridge, Shenandoah and Central States Elec- tric. Aviation Shares, if Dayton Air- plane Engine be excepted, were inactive and inclined toward_softnes: Ground Gripper Shoe was whirled to a new high level, following a flash from Chicago to the effect that direc- tors are to meet here next week to discuss the possibility of an extra divi- dend. NEW YORK, September 12.— Two new declarations of policy that will be of the utmost importance to American business interests as to the listing of issues on the New York Stock Exchange were enunclated yesterday by E. H. H. Simmons, president. It became known through a long statement issued by Mr. Simmons that the exchange has definitely adopted & policy of not listing non-voting com- mon stocks, a matter that was widely discussed three years ago but which has not been decided until now. The exchange has also broadened its re- quirements as to the publication of in- formation concerning stock dividends and as to the accounting for the stock dividends when received by investment trusts. Incorporated in Mr. Simmons’ state- ment was a report of the special com- mittee on stock dividends in which it was stated that “an effort will be made to obtain for the investor such infor- mation as may place him in the posi- tion to determine in connection with stock dividends received by him to what extent they constitute true stock dividends representing the capitaliza- tion of current or past earnings, and to what extent, if at all, they repre- sent merely split-ups involving an ex- pression in a new form of what was already his . gengIsmnone =m0 B Practically all skilled workers in Bra- 3822 211 are being kept busy '"FINANCIAL ership Foreca: NEW YORK, September 12 (#).—The reorganization committee of the Cuba Cane Sugar Corporation announces that although only 28 cent of the debentures remain undeposited under the plan for the financial reconditionin; of the company, a receivership, witl consequent forced sale of the property, seems inevitable. The statement asserts, however, that the committec believes it can carry out the reorganization plan even in the event of receivership. Time for deposit of securities was extended to, September 25, and for the exercise of subscription warrants for proposed new securities, through October 5. ORDERS 1,000 CARS. NEW YORK, September 12.—The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Rallroad has ordered 1,000 mill type gondola cars, 500 of which will be con- structed by the Pressed Steel Car Co. and 500 by the Bettendorf Co. Ap- proximately 12,000 tons of steel will be required to fill the orders. New Investment Trust. CHICAGO, September 12 (#)—A $65,000,000 investment trust has been organized by the Continental Illinois Bank & Trust Co., and stock will be placed on sale in a few days. The trust, to be known as the Continental Chicago Corporation, will have Arthur Reynolds, chairman of the board of the bank and trust company, as president. Wall Street Briefs By the Assoclated Press. The 4,000 tons of steel required for the catenary supporting structures in the electrification of New Jersey sub- urban branches of the Lackawanna Rallroad is to be fabricated by the American Bridge Co. at its Elmira, N. Y., plant. Financing for the United States & Overseas Corporation, an international investment company organized last Feb- ruary under Harris Forbes Corporation auspices for operations in foreign and domestic fields, will comprise 600,000 shares of common stock with warrants. Net income for the Phelps Dodge Cor- poration for the current year will ex- ceed $16,000,000 after all charges, but before depletion, it is shown in pre- liminary estimates by officials of the company, which assume a continuance of the present firm tone in the copper metal market. Last year the company earned slightly more than $10,000,000 after charges, but before depletion. Effective today, the name of Acoustic Products Corporation, listed on the New York Curb Exchange was changed to Sonora Products Corporation of Amer- ica. Eugene P. Herman, president, said that stockholders in Acoustic products in large numbers were exchanging their stock for shares in Sonora products. Both the Buffalo, N. Y., and Saginaw, Mich., factories of the company, he added, are working in 24-hour shifts to fill orders. Sir Henry W. Thornston, president of the Canadian National wv'\?nys, has been elected a director of the Royal Bank of Canada. A second offering of 400,000 shares {of capital stock of International Car- | riers, Ltd., will be made tomorrow at $25.50 a share.
