ENGINEER CALLING | WILBE ANALYZED Group From Profession to Seek Fresh Objectives in Study. American engineers are planning to apply the yardstick to the engineer as a professional man, in an effort to set up fresh objectives for the profession, it is announced by the American En- gineering Council from national head- quarters, 26 Jackson place. The study will be centered in Wash- ington by a committee headed by H. C. Morris, retired mining engineer, of 1868 Columbia road. Other members of the committee are A. B. McDaniels of ‘Washington, representing the American Soclety of Civil Engineers; Conrad N. Lauer of Philadelphia, representing the American Society of Mechanical gl- neers: H. A. Kidder of New York, rep- resenting the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, and L. W. Wal- lace of 26 Jackson place, executive sec- retary of the council. Earnings to Be Analyzed. Committees from each of the en- gineering groups will also work with the council committee to furnish data for the study. Earnings will be analyzed, the trends of engineernig thought will be explored and machinery will be set up to adjust the relationships of engineers wherever difficulties arise locally or nationally. Arthur W. Berresford of New York, president of the council, inaugurated the study of the profession in the belief that, as analyzers and planners for other lines, they could be performing themselves a constructive service by analyzing their own calling. Comparisons to Be Made. i In the study, comparisons will be made between the engineering and other professions, particularly as to the earnings of the individuals. The status of the profession as measured by ap- propriate standards will be ascertained and the major trends of the profession determined. The classifications planned as a re- sult of the study are expected to be of \ great service to the Government serv- ices. ‘The committee also will study I;glstrntlon laws in States which have em.
