The second Nation-wide radio meet- ing of the National Grange, to be con- ducted sthrough a coast-to-coast net- | work of National Broadcasting Co. sta- tions tonight, will introduce a distin- guished group of speakers. WRC will be the Washington link in the trans- continental radio chain The outstanding figures in public life scheduled to take part in the unique meeting of the Grange include Senator Capper of Kansas, Representatives Ketcham of Michigan, Jones of Texas and Ruth Hanna McCormick of Illi- nois, and Louls J. Taber, National Grange master. The musical portion of the program will be provided by the Imperial Male Quartet Two other members of Congress, Senators Wagner of New York and Met- calf of Rhode Island, also will be heard by WRC's audience tonight during the | weekly “Half Hours With the Senate” broadcast. The latter will speak on “Administration _Accomplishments _to Date.” Senator Metcalf’s topic has not been announced. Gossips Present Sketch. The Gossipers, who present a serial comic sketch of metropoiitan life and & variety of musical features, are among WRC's remaining presentations. ~The Schradertown Brass Band and the Citles Service Orchestra and Cavaliers will furnish the major part of the mu- sical program. -There also will be a musical feature in the farewell evening in Paris episode, which is to go off the air after tonight's program until Sep- tember. Consplcuous _on the Cities Service program _are three dances from Sme- tana's “The Bartered Bride” to be played by Rosario Bourdon’s Orchestra. The usual solo number, “Valse Bril- liante,” will be played by Arthur Lora, flutist. The second of the series of talks ar- ranged by the Washington Chamber of Commerce to stress the importance of the air mail service will be broadcast to- night by WMAL. The speakers will be Senator Bingham of Connecticut, who has been intensely interested in the de- velopment of aviation, and Harold F. Pitcairn, president of an aviation cor- poration which bears his name. Columbia Attractions. WMAL'’s Columbia Broadcasting Sys- | tem attractions include the True Story | Hour, Enna Jettick Melodies, “Doc” West, and & new presentation called “In a Russian Village,” which consists of vocal numbers and balalaika music by Peter Biljo's Orchestra. Miss Dorsey Bryon, popular young singer, again will be the soloist on the “Doc” West program. Freddie Rich's Orchestra also will take part in this at- traction. A song written by James J. Walker long before he became mayor of New York, will be the specialty of the Enna Jettick program. It is “Will You Love Me in December As You Did in May?” Catherine Duning, pianist, and the Red Wings, a string orchestra, will pro- vide the musical portion of WOL's pro- gram this evening. There also will be another “Amos 'n_Andy” episode and a program of dinner music. Bran Hughes' Orchestra, the Har-Melody Boys, and the Gondollers are featured by WJISV. The Afflxcted Man James Box had boils upon his nech, enough to make his life a wreck; he also had rheumatic pains whenever there were snows or rains; he had a spavin on his knee which caused him frequent misery. So often had I been assured of sufferings the man endured, that I decided I would go and try to cheer him in his woe. “Some kindly ‘words,” I thought, “no doubt will help that sad and careworn scout.” I jour- neyed straightway to his door to try to soothe his spirit sore. “I have been told,” I said, “my friend, that you have troubles without end. They say that you have boils to burn, and rheumatism in its turn, that you have spavins here and there, and housemaid's knee and falling hair, And so I come with streaming eves to tell you how I sympa- thize. Life is a grievous thing, I claim, when fell diseases climb your frame, but it should cheer you up to know that nelghbors watch you in your woe, and ‘wish you some kindly act of theirs could rid you of your aches and cares.” Said Box, “My life seems full and rich; I haven't got the barber’s itch. Such trifiing ilis as I possess don't fill my bosom with distress. When I look through the almanac and note how many ailments rack the forms of more unlucky gents, I feel I should not make laments. There are a hundred deadly ills which call for wagonloads of pills, and most of them have passed me by, | #0 it were sin to wail and sigh. I a contented with my lot; I think of ills I haven't got, of croup and mumps and things like these, of gout and foot-and- mouth disease, of flu, which everywhere prevails, of whooping cough, ingrowing | nalls, of scores of ills that pass me up, and I am happy as a pup.” WALT MASON.
