June 7.—Joseph Carmel, Calif writer and lecturer, was named de- fendant. in a divorce suit filed here by Mrs. Leonora Steffens. who charged ex- treme cruelty. Steffens is 63 years old. | The wife is said to be in her 30's. | Mrs. Steffens. whose pen name is| Ealls Wimter. said her husband objected to her attending dances and prevented her from having normal social relations.
