CHURCH WILL HOLD | EXERCISESAPRIL™S Corner Stone of Universalist National Memorial Will Be Laid. < ‘The warner stone of the new Univer- galist National Memorial Church, now in process of construction at Sixteenth . and S streets, will be laid April 28, at 4 o'clock. The service of dedication will be conducted by Dr. Frederic W. Per- kins, minister of the church, and rep- resentatives of the Universalist General Convention will participate. Other participants will be Dr. John van Schaick and Dr. Clarence E. Rice, former minister; Dr. Frank D. Adams of Detroit, president of the Universal- ist General Convention; Dr. Roger F. Etz, exccutive secretary; Dr. John S. Lowe of Boston, former general super- intendent of the Universalist Church; Dr. Ulysses G. B. Pierce of All Souls’ Unitarian Church, Washington, and Rev. It succeeds the Church of Our Father at Thirteenth and L streets, The money is being con- tributed by Universalist churches and individuals throughout the country. Many of the leading features of the church, such as pulpit, lectern, com- munion table, baptistry, organ, chancel furnishings, windows and pews have been given as memorials to_clergymen and laymen of the Universalist fellow- -ship who have served the communities and churches in which they have lived. | One of the most prominent of these memorials will be the organ given by Mrs. Frances K. Hutchinson in mem- ory of her late husband, Charles L. Hutchinson of Chicago. Mr. Hutchin- son, former president of the Univer- salist General Convention and long a & member of its board of trustees, was one of the original sponsors of the Na- tiona! Memorial Church enterprise, and the first chairman of its building com- mittee. He was a leader in the artistic and educational life of Chicago, and long president of the Art Institute and treasurer of Chicago University. He had a special Washington connection through having been one of the ‘incor- porators of the Carnegie Institution. The cost of the church and lot will be more than $400,000. The architects are Allen & Collens of Boston and the general contractors Boyle-Robertson Co. of Washington, ANNOUNCES THIRD IN SERMON SERIES Dr. Porter to Preach on “Finding God in Nature"—Other Services Listed.
